General Issues, Requirements, Hardware, Drivers, etc

Question: Whenever I try to start game X, I get an error message saying that my system is missing files like DINPUT.DLL and similar files. Where can I get these files?
Answer: It means that your DirectX-drivers aren't recent enough. You need DirectX 7.0 or later. Download the latest version from Microsoft.

Question: When I run game X it opens up in a very small window that I cannot expand into fullscreen. What am I doing wrong?
Answer: DirectX in combination with some videocards does not support the low resoulution in which some of my games are running. This is something that I can't do anything about. Try updating your DirectX drivers videocard drivers.

Alternatively, change around the parameters for your video card in the Control Panel. This has helped a few users.

Question: I have some sound and/or video problems with game X, what can I do to fix it?
Answer: Make sure you have the latest drivers for DirectX and the latest drivers for your sound card and graphics card ()you can get the latter from the manufacturer's site).

Question: When I play game X, my gamepad/joystick acts really strange. It pulls in the wrong wrong directions even if I don't touch it and so on. What is wrong?
Answer: When the game is started your gamepad/joystick will be initialised and calibrated. Don't touch it! Let it be still until the menu appears.

Question: I'm trying to install a custom character for the game but I cannot understand how. Please help!

Question: Are there any cheats for this game?
Answer: Nope, not a single one.

Question: The game runs really slow! How can I speed it up?
Answer: Try turning off the Eye Candy and make sure you run in fullscreen. You can also try running with a low sound quailty.

Question: When I start Icy Tower I get to see the intro screen and the menu but then the game freezes. I cannot select any choices in the menu. Sometimes the screen is just black, but I can hear music playing in the background.
Answer: Use the arrow keys or your joystick to select items in the menu. If you have a joystick or gamepad connected, make sure that autofire is off or try disconnecting it before you start the game.

Question: I never manage to get any cool combo jumps! What am I doing wrong?
Answer: Try harder. :) Youneed to jump at least two floors in each jump. Make sure you use the walls to bump on and take it slow, you have more time to concentrate than what it seems like.

Question: Will there be a sequel? With multiplayer action, levels, skins and so on?
Answer: Most probably, no.

FAQ for Hellcarrier

Question: The game runs extremly slow on my computer, how can I speed it up?
Answer: You can speed up the game in many ways. Open the in-game options menu and look under Video Options. Here you can turn various effects on and off and lower the frame rate. A lower frame rate makes the game faster but with less smooth animation. You might have to experiment here to find the configuration that best suits your computer.

Question: Sound works fine but I can hear no music during the missions.
Answer: There is no music to be heard during the missions. Music will only play when in the main menu.

Question: Whenever I try to play it, the game tells me it isn't able to locate "missions/mission1.mis" and suggests re-installing which didn't help at all.
Answer: You need to update you allegro dll. Get it here.

Question: Sometimes when I release my co-pilot he/she will slowly walk after any enemy troops/scientists/buildings that are in the area instead of picking up supplies. What's happening and how do I stop it?
Answer: This is a bug that I intend to fix sometime when I find the time. The problem is that the copilot sees an enemy or an enemy house and wants to destroy it, even though he carries no gun. A workaround while waiting for an update is to either (A) shoot everything before letting out the copilot or (B) if the copilot starts walking astray, follow him with the chopper and shoot the stuff that he walks towards.

Question: It's too hard! Aren't there any cheats?
Answer: Yes there are cheats, if you really want them (cheats usually ruins a game), click here.

FAQ for Happyland Adventures

Question: Is this free game just a demo or do I get the complete game?
Answer: You get the complete game (2 complete games including the original version) for free.

Question: I can't find enough blue spheres on level X. Can you mail me all passwords?
Answer: No :). I'm sure you can find them if you search the net though.

Question: When I get to Wicked Village 1 there is a huge pit of spikes in the beginning that is impossible to jump across. How do I get over?
Answer: Use the slope before the spikes to pick up speed and then make a nice long jump over to the other side.

Question: How do I play levels that I have downloaded from the internet?
Answer: First I suggest you use the Xmas Edition when playing external levels. It's so much easier. Ok, here goes:

• Unzip the levels into the maps directory (default: C:/games/happy/maps/ ).
• Start Happyland Adventures - Xmas Edition and select CUSTOM GAME in the opening menu.
• On this screen you can add both levels and bonus rooms. (Note: You mute add at least one of each to be able to start the game.) You can remove maps by right clicking them in their lists. The maps will be played in the order that they are in on the screen.
• When satisfied, click 'Play!' to start the game!

FAQ for Operation Spacehog

Question: I have installed the game and started it. The menu works great and I can select my pilot. But when the actual game starts, I can see the mothership and the general gives me some advice, the game freezes. What do I do?
Answer: The game wants you to press fire. Press the button or the key you have assigned as fire to continue and start playing the game.

Question: It's so slow! How can I speed it up?
Answer: Lots of things can be done to speed the game up. You can turn sound and music OFF. If this is not enough, turn the various graphical effects OFF.

Question: I have a 2-button gamepad and therefore I can't use the SPECIAL-button. How do I access it?
Answer: Select KEYBOARD as controltype and check what SPECIAL-key you have. Switch back to GAMEPAD. Now you can use that key for SPECIAL.

Question: Where's the level editor? I want to make a level!
Answer: The level editor is quite user unfriendly but since you ask nicely: Here it is.

Question: I can't destroy the meteors.
Answer: They cannot be destroyed with the normal gun. Try some magma or missiles.

Question: There's a giant meteor that I can't destroy with any weapon!
Answer: Correct. It's called an obstacle.
